Abbotsford is celebrating a proud moment as six local students earned top honors at the recent Skills Canada BC Provincial Trades and Technology Competition. Their achievements highlight the city’s growing reputation as a leader in vocational education and career readiness.
Representing various schools across the city, the students excelled in categories ranging from carpentry and welding to automotive service, robotics, and graphic design. Competing against peers from across British Columbia, these Abbotsford youth demonstrated not only technical excellence but also the discipline, creativity, and confidence that skilled trades demand.
“This recognition reflects years of hard work, hands-on learning, and strong mentorship,” said a teacher from one of the participating schools. “It also shows how seriously Abbotsford takes its commitment to preparing students for the future workforce.”
The Skills Canada BC competition is part of a national movement to raise awareness and prestige around skilled trades and technology careers—fields that are becoming increasingly vital to Canada's economy. Winning at the provincial level often opens doors to national and international opportunities, including scholarships, apprenticeships, and post-secondary pathways.
Local leaders praised the students for their accomplishments and applauded the educators, parents, and community organizations who helped make their success possible. Abbotsford School District has invested heavily in trades and tech programming in recent years, including partnerships with local industries and access to state-of-the-art training facilities.
For the six students, the awards mark the beginning of what promises to be a bright and impactful journey in their chosen fields. And for the city of Abbotsford, it’s a proud reminder that the next generation of builders, creators, and problem-solvers is already hard at work.
