Canada’s 2025 federal election is a full-blown battle over real estate. With home prices sky-high and affordability out of reach for many, every major party is racing to prove they’ve got the blueprint to fix it.
The Liberal Party promises tax relief for first-time buyers by removing GST on homes under $1 million. They're also pledging to build homes fast, with $35 billion earmarked for prefab housing and a national housing crown corporation called Build Canada Homes leading the charge.
The Conservatives counter with a wider GST cut on homes up to $1.3 million for everyone, plus incentives for cities to cut development fees. Their Building Homes Not Bureaucracy Act aims to slice through red tape and turn federal land into livable housing.
The NDP is betting on affordability, planning over 100,000 rent-controlled homes on federal land and tying funding to strong tenant protections. They’re also rolling out a massive retrofit initiative to lower energy bills.
Meanwhile, the Greens push for long-term affordability via co-ops and renter support, and the Bloc Québécois wants the housing authority returned to Quebec, backed by targeted funding.
As voters face record rents and mortgages, this election could redefine Canada’s housing landscape for decades. The only question: who can actually deliver?
