On the weekend of April 12–13, 2025, Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) officers apprehended an American citizen who illegally crossed the U.S.-Canada border and was intercepted on Highway 1. The individual bypassed the Huntingdon border crossing without stopping at the booth to check in and declare, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.
AbbyPD's Gang Crime Unit located the suspect's vehicle merging onto Highway 1 at the Sumas on-ramp. Officers executed a rolling vehicle block to safely stop the vehicle and arrest the driver. The individual was then handed over to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) for processing at the border crossing.
This incident was among 345 police files handled by AbbyPD over the weekend, which also included addressing impaired driving, excessive speeding, and other public safety concerns. The department continues to emphasize road safety and the enforcement of laws to maintain community security.
The apprehension of the border runner highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in monitoring and securing border areas. AbbyPD's prompt action in this case underscores their commitment to public safety and effective cross-border collaboration.
