Fascinating Origins
The Toronto Beaches Easter Parade began in 1967 as a modest community celebration organized by the local Lions Club. What many don't realize is that it was initially created as a one-time Centennial celebration of Canada's Confederation, but proved so popular that it became an annual tradition. Perhaps the most surprising element of the parade's history involves the original 1967 "Easter Bunny" costume, which, according to longtime parade organizer Margaret Wilson, "was actually a repurposed mascot from a defunct local hockey team, hastily modified with longer ears and a cotton tail."
The parade's iconic vintage convertibles weren't added until 1974, when local classic car enthusiast Robert Chambers offered his collection after severe weather damaged many of the original parade floats just days before the event. This last-minute substitution became so beloved that vintage automobiles have remained a centerpiece ever since.
This Sunday, April 20, 2025, the 58th annual Toronto Beaches Easter Parade begins at 2:00 PM at Queen Street East and Munro Park Avenue. The festive procession then travels westward along Queen Street East for approximately two hours, ending at Woodbine Avenue around 4:00 PM.
Plan to arrive by 1:30 PM to secure a prime viewing spot along the 2-kilometre parade route.
Prime Viewing Locations
Queen Street East and Woodbine Avenue offer an ideal starting point with ample sidewalk space and nearby cafés for comfort during the wait. The parade kick-off energy is unmatched here, with performers at their freshest and most enthusiastic.
Kew Gardens Park provides a family-friendly atmosphere with grassy areas for picnicking and playground access for restless children. The slight elevation offers improved visibility over street-level spots.**
Queen Street at Lee Avenue features the famous Beaches Branch Library steps, which create a natural stadium-like viewing experience. Many locals consider this the parade's sweet spot for photography.
Balmy Beach Club Area near the parade's conclusion offers a less crowded experience with beautiful lakefront views. The relaxed atmosphere here contrasts with the busier western sections.
