Peachland’s new regulation requiring a minimum 30-day stay for short-term rentals has sent ripples through the town’s tourism and small business sectors. Once a go-to destination for weekenders and week-long vacationers, the shift is redefining who visits—and who benefits.
For tourists, spontaneity is out. Travelers looking for quick getaways are turning to neighboring towns with more flexible rental rules, while longer-term guests—snowbirds, digital nomads, and seasonal workers—are becoming the new norm. These visitors often spend more overall, but the volume of foot traffic has noticeably slowed in peak months.
That’s created a mixed bag for local businesses. Restaurants, cafés, and outdoor tour operators who thrived on high turnover and daily walk-ins are seeing quieter weekends. Yet, other businesses catering to longer-stay guests, like co-working spaces, grocery services, and wellness studios, are seeing an uptick.
Real estate investors are also adjusting strategies. The traditional Airbnb model no longer works here—but furnished monthly rentals, corporate stays, and seasonal leasing are gaining traction. Some property owners are selling, while others are adapting to this new style of tourism.
The 30-day rule may have limited short-term volume, but it's quietly attracting a different kind of visitor—those looking to stay, contribute, and integrate. For Peachland, this could mean slower weekends, but stronger long-term relationships with both guests and business owners.
